Q Cards
The Q Card its a three-panel card that helps queer and trans youth in navigate health care and services. Youth fill in their name, pronouns, sexual orientation, gender identity, and list any concerns or questions, and then can bring the card to an appointment with a health care provider to start (or continue) an open and honest conversation with the provider about privacy, confidentiality, and their health care needs. Youth can hand the Q Card to the provider in the exam room, read through it with the provider, or simply talk about their answers to the different questions printed on the card. The bottom panel of the Q Card has tips for providers on how to offer more sensitive care to queer youth. This section tears off and can be left with the health care provider. Though the concept is simple, Q Cards have the potential to change the way queer youth interact with providers and ensure they get the health care they need.
