HealthSmart Grade 5 Set, 2nd Edition

The new second edition of HealthSmart Grade 5 is part of ETR's comprehensive K-12 health education program that focuses on the essential concepts and skills students need to know and practice to adopt healthy behaviors. HealthSmart meets the National Health Education Standards (NHES), aligns to the CDC's Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT), and focuses on the key areas of risk that confront children and youth today as identified by the CDC's National Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS). The program also draws on the cultural strengths of students and their families to support healthy behaviors and establish healthy social norms and expectations.

 

Grade 5 lessons and activities are tailored to the developmental capabilities of fifth-grade students, and cover these key health content areas:

• Emotional & Mental Health (3 lessons)
• Personal Health & Wellness (3 lessons)
• Injury & Violence Prevention (9 lessons)
• Nutrition & Physical Activity (7 lessons)
• Alcohol Prevention (9 lessons)
• Sexual Health (7 lessons)

Lessons are approximately 45 minutes long. The Grade 5 curriculum set includes:

• Teacher's Guide (208 pages) that contains easy-to teach lessons with clear objectives, teaching steps and assessment.
• Classroom set of 30 Student Workbooks (88 pages each) that include all student reading and activity sheets.
• Flash Drive with images used to introduce health concepts and skills, stimulate student thinking and keep lessons lively and fun. (Provided in both PowerPoint and PDF). Also included are masters for take-home family sheets, teacher pages and group projects.
• Scope & Sequence chart that shows NHES and HECAT alignment.
