Communities Energized for Health (CEH)
About Us
Communities Energized for Health (CEH) addresses exposure to secondhand smoke in rural communities of Northern California. Through meaningful partnerships and with the support of the communities most impacted by secondhand smoke, CEH is working on the following solutions:
- Smoke and tobaccofree multiunit housing in Yolo and Tehama Counties
- Smoke and tobaccofree mobile home park complexes in Tehama County
- Smoke and tobaccofree healthcare campus policies and tobacco quit referrals to Kick It California in Amador and Placer Counties
CEH believes that all Californians deserve a fair chance for a healthy life protected from the harms of exposure to secondhand smoke. Unfortunately, rural Californians have a significantly increased risk of lung and other cancers that can be caused by tobacco use, less access to appropriate cancer care, greater likelihood of receiving late-stage diagnosis, and lower cancer survival rates.1 Rural Californians are more likely to be exposed to secondhand smoke at work and at home than urban residents are.2 That's why CEH works to reduce secondhand smoke exposure in multiunit housing, promotes smokefree healthcare centers where many residents work and seek health and healing, and promotes free resources to stop tobacco use so our community members can quit on their own terms.
We are funded by the California Department of Public Health, Tobacco Control Program under contract number 20-10379.
