Description

ETR, along with implementation partner Health Connected, will be conducting an evaluation of the Teen Talk High School Refresher (TTHSR) booster program, designed to equip students in 11th and 12th grade with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed sexual health decisions as they transition from high school into adulthood. As leaders in evaluation, ETR’s goal is to test the effectiveness of a sexual health education (SHE) booster program in preventing behavioral risk factors, underlying unintended teen pregnancy, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among youth living in rural communities in California.

Using a rights-based, social justice-informed approach, TTHSR focuses on healthy relationships and self-advocacy in a consolidated 5-hour intervention. The evaluation of TTHSR highlights its innovation by addressing critical gaps in existing sexual health programming. It focuses on underserved rural youth, offers tailored sexual health education for older adolescents nearing adulthood, tests a booster program to enhance previous education, and incorporates a rights-based, social justice perspective to address developmentally relevant topics.
